Reasons I love To All The Boys I've Loved Before and I'm Waiting for Peter Kavinsky

This weekend we were blessed with the movie adaptation of To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han on Netflix. To be honest, I've been looking forward to this movie for months, but I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. And guess what, I wasn't alone!

To All the Boys I've Loved Before, was a trending topic all weekend, for multiple reasons, and what I found super interesting was not how in love with the film we were but who was in love with it. Many of my friends and the writers and bloggers I follow are near or deep in their 30s, and we all said that same the same thing, WHERE IS PETER KAVINSKY?! We communally fell in love with fictional Peter Kavinsky, played by the extremely handsome Noah Centineo, but when you really think about it, it wasn't because Peter was doing anything extraordinary. In fact, it was quite the opposite, he was just a good guy and not even all the time. He talked to his ex, a lot, but you could tell he was getting over a heartbreak and was honest about it, he wrote Lara Jean notes, drove her to school, took her out, told her she was pretty, listened and talked to her...I'm sorry but this is the minimum you could be doing to date me. I feel like we're fawning over him because for the first time in a long time, maybe ever, we have a predominant hookup culture and men aren't doing the basics, but that's a topic for another post or maybe a podcast episode.

Another reason we all loved the movie was the representation! Shout out to be beautiful Song women. All of the sisters were so nuanced it was really cool to see that they just got to be themselves and it wasn't about their race at all, but it was. Lana Condor who plays Lara Jean was absolutely perfect, and I cannot wait to see what else she does. I really can't imagine anyone else playing Lara Jean either, she had the confidence and quirkiness down, but she also was so freaking pretty and stylish. No wonder Peter fell how he did. Margot played by Janel Parish was the perfect big sister. She kept Lara Jean and Kitty together. Sidenote about Janel, remember that movie Aloha when people were mad at the casting because Emma Stone is white playing a "partial Hawaiian"...Janel is Hawaiian, and a good actress, I'm just saying. Lastly, there was the most adorable feisty, Anna Cathcart, who played Kitty. She was a real one from her feminist necklace to her schemes. She was always looking out for Lara Jean and her logic made sense, she had 5 chances at love. That's just better odds.

Overall the movie was great, and even though right now the internet is completely canceling Josh played by Isreal Broussard (don't worry, he deserves it) its still worth it! Check out the trailer.
