Rotation 5.14.18

Welcome to the Weekly Rotation where I share my weekly playlist and what new jams I'm listening to this week!

Albums & EPs:

In terms of EP's, Wale dropped the Self- Promotion. My favorites are "Salary Kaep" and "Cassius," both built around the greatness of Ali and Kaepernick. The main theme of the whole EP is the state of America for the black lives. This is something that has been at the forefront of conversation for the past few weeks, especially in hip-hop.

Another great EP that dropped was The Opening Ceremony from BJ the Chicago Kid. This is definitely preparation for his full-length album, but I'm happy to get a taste of what is to come. My favorite track on this 3 song release would be, "Going Once Going Twice."

My favorite album release of the week is from Taelor Gray with The Love That Don't Last Long. The album drops truth throughout, so if you are looking for hip-hop that gets your heart right, check this one out. My favorite tracks are "Politics" and "Keep Dreaming."

I have to show love to my boy John Mayer who just steady makes music out here. His newest single is "New Light." A poppy light-hearted song for the spring.

A few newer names on the music scene for me slid into this weeks playlist specifically Elujay with "Starchild." This track is a smooth R&B track which has been where my ear is leaning lately. Also, a name that's not super new but I feel like is not well known enough is Jordan Rakei. He dropped "Wildfire," an alternative R&B track with amazing vocals. If you don't know about Jordan Rakei, please get to know him!

Another few to for sure check out on this weeks playlist are, "Easy" by Next Town Down,  KYLE's "Ikuyo" featuring 2 Chains and Sophia Black, and "Anywhere" by Mustard feat. Nick Jonas.

Video of the Week:

This week's featured video is "Pray" by Sam Smith featuring Logic. The video itself is beautiful and set in what looks like a castle in Italy. It seems that he is telling multiple stories with different scenes and motifs in each room. Check it out!
